For the most part I make my own blends as I need them. When I am working with someone, I work with my guides for assistance to pick the best oils for the job at hand. I’m always researching oils and looking for blend recipes. No one cook uses the same source all the time that’s why you have a whole drawer in your kitchen dedicated to recipe books. The Aromatherapist has the same drawer in his/her “lab” full of books and loose recipes of the perfect blends to try someday.
It should also be noted that no two blends are created equal. You are unique and so are the blends you create. Your energy and intention behind your blend is what makes it special; no two people can duplicated the exact same blend. So with that in mind, a blend that I create for a particular ailment may not work the same as a blend created by you. Use your own intuition and inner guidance when formulating and don’t forget the most important part. Do you like how it smells? I also infuse Reiki into each blend I create, if you do not have Reiki, you can hold the bottle in your hands; say a prayer and intend what you want your blend to help with.
Pure Essential oils and those blended with carrier oils should always be stored in a dark glass container, out of direct sunlight and in a cool dry place. I keep my essential oils and carrier oils in a mini refrigerator. Remember less is always more when working with essential oils. Use half the recommended dosages when working with children, those who are addicted to substances and/or alcohol, the elderly and those who have severe health conditions or going through a treatment regime. It’s a good idea to consult your health professional prior to use of any oils. Use caution and be aware that there are certain essential oils that should not be applied to the body if pregnant or nursing. (In general, it is best not to use essential oils if you are pregnant or nursing.)
When blending always start out with small amounts and test them in a small area for a reaction. The blends can be used for a number of purposes. They can be added to products, diffused or mixed with carrier oil and applied topically. Oils should not be applied to the skin at full strength or “neat”. Use the following quantifies as a guideline when blending essential oils with carrier oils.
