I came up with a brilliant plan; I was going to celebrate my 50th birthday all year long! Each month I’m going to do something special to validate my 50 years of life. So hence forward I shall dub the year 2013 as, “The Year of the 50th”!
Some of the celebrations will be big, some of them will be small, but they all will be special to me. The “Year of the 50th” is not about what others can do for me, it’s what I can do for myself and others.
I have learned many things on my spiritual journey and one very important lesson being learned is the validation of self.
Sometimes we don’t grow up with the validation we need from those who care for us. We may not even know that this is our responsibility to do this for ourselves. We have all heard the saying, “The only one that can make you happy is you.” No truer words can be said. Self-validation is necessary to feel happy, peaceful, worthy and have loving relationships with yourself and others.
Notice how you judge yourself rather than how you value yourself.
It is very easy to judge yourself. We are all our worst critics. If you asked me what I liked about myself, I would stammer, hem and haw and find it very difficult to list my attributes. But if you were to ask me what I didn’t like about myself, I would find it much easier to list my flaws.
This goes back to our conditioning we received when we were young. You were told to not brag about yourself or think too highly of yourself. This was being arrogant. It was better to be humble and modest. Those were desirable characteristic traits. As long as you strive to get approval from others, you will not be happy if you are still judging yourself.
Notice your feelings and trust your inner knowing rather than taking the opinions of others as “authority” for what is right or wrong for you. When you choose to be kind to yourself and to others and value yourself for your kindness, you will discover how good that makes you feel.
Learn to see yourself through the eyes of your Higher Self rather than through the eyes of your ego self. Spend time in meditation and ask for help from your spiritual team with assisting you in rewriting your personal history. Work on showing your inner self that you are special; treat yourself and others with loving kindness. Validating yourself will make you feel better and the validation from others will no longer matter.
